When you want a degree but have no money

Education is damn expensive! Especially Higher education. More so when you want to school abroad. Some countries offer a tuition free educational system but most don't.

The good news is that you should never let the lack of money stop you from pursuing your educational dreams. I remember anytime I tell people of my plan to study abroad, they will ask me about money and I will say to them, "I dont care that I can't afford to school abroad".

Back then I only had the dream, and the resolve to see that dream come to life.

It will turn out that surely 'where is there is a will, there is a way'.

I always tell people, if you want to school abroad and embrace the plentiful opportunities that come with it, money should be the last of your hindrances.

Because the truth is, there are many Universities that places great value on brilliant minds, and they have a lot of funding opportunities for such people. The key thing is that you just need to prove that you deserve this opportunity.

For instance, at some point, I wanted to pursue a degree in Market Research, and I found out that a certain school in the US actually had an MSc in Market Research program where you dont pay tuition. They have collaborated with several leading companies so as part of the course, you work for these companies whilst they take care of your tuition. The best part is that you are paid an additional stipend at the end of the month. How cool is that?

There are many of such programs around. It is just very competitive and you have to be outstanding to get in.

So if you have ever considered studying abroad, never let your humble background deter you.

Instead, work on making yourself marketable. Start engaging in your community, can you provide a solution to a problem facing your community?

Instead of staying home applying for jobs, you can volunteer your time and knowledge. Is there a school nearby that will need the help of a Maths Teacher?

Can you mentor young people? Can you work on a science projects?

These are some of the simple things that make us stand out. It just shows that you have a passion to make the world better and by acquiring more knowledge who knows what you can come up with next?
