There are a wide range of scholarships available for students. However the selection criteria for most of them is quite tough. A lot of them is merit based - you need to demonstrate excellent academic track records.

A few of them are need based. This means that priority is given to candidates from very poor backgrounds.


Also, one thing about scholarships is the application process is rigorous with a multi stage interview process. All these can be quite deterring.

However there is this scholarship I applied to which was different. The process was simple and straightforward. The scholarship value is $5000 a year for two years and all you need to do is to fill the application form and have 3 referees send in a letter of why they think you deserve the award.

The criteria for applying is below and even though the deadline is over for this year, you can apply for next year.

• You must be female
• You must have been admitted to a University for a Masters degree or higher
• You must be a citizen of a developing country
• You course must be related to peace, conflict resolution, women empowerment, development etc
